Multiple emergency response teams have been mobilized in response to a significant event that occurred in the Ohio River, close to Louisville, Kentucky. Ten barges became detached from their tugboat and are now stranded at a dam. Of the ten, one barge is sinking, and it carries over 1,400 tons of methanol, a highly toxic substance. The presence of any leakages remains uncertain, but in the event of a leak, the substance is likely to dilute quickly, although it may result in some fish mortality. The remaining barges were carrying soybean oil and corn.
