Indonesia was formally chosen by FIFA to host the U-20 World Cup in 2021 on October 24, 2019. But on March 29, 2023, FIFA made the shocking announcement that Indonesia would no longer be hosting the U-20 World Cup. Without providing any other information, FIFA declared that Indonesia has been dropped as the host owing to the "current situation." The Israeli national team, which was scheduled to compete in the U-20 World Cup, was rejected by a number of parties, including religious organizations, governors, and politicians, which specifically caused the cancellation in Indonesia. Israel's national squad was turned away mostly because Indonesia does not recognize Israel as a state.
