Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for chronic diseases and premature death. Regular exercise has been shown to improve overall physical fitness and health. High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is a popular and effective exercise program that has gained attention in recent years due to its time efficiency and potential benefits. Back in the year, the researchers had a study to examine the effects of HIIT on physical fitness and health in adults.

They recruited participants from the local community and randomly assigned to either an experimental group or a control group. The experimental group engaged in a 12-week HIIT program, which consisted of 3 sessions per week. Each session included a warm-up, high-intensity intervals of 30 seconds to 1 minute, followed by a low-intensity recovery period of 1-2 minutes, and a cool-down period. The control group maintained their usual level of physical activity during the study period. Both groups underwent pre- and post-intervention assessments of physical fitness, body composition, blood pressure, lipid profile, and glucose metabolism.

The studies have reported that HIIT is an effective exercise program for improving physical fitness and health. In a meta-analysis of 39 studies, HIIT was found to significantly increase maximal oxygen uptake, a measure of aerobic fitness, compared to other forms of exercise. The experimental group showed significant improvements in physical fitness, body composition, blood pressure, lipid profile, and glucose metabolism compared to the control group. Specifically, HIIT program increased aerobic capacity, muscle strength, and endurance, decreased body fat percentage, and improved sensitivity of insulin.
