Media trustworthiness in the United States

A study by Rasmussen Reports found that 83% of Americans consider "fake news" a concern, while 56% believe that the media are "genuinely the enemy of the people." The United States media has the least amount of trustworthiness, with only 26% of respondents from 46 countries having confidence in it, according to the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. In this episode we argue that the media has lost public trust due to its reliance on official sources, which run the risk of reinforcing false information, as well as its eagerness to operate as a government advocate to avoid stricter legislation. The media's handling of stories such as the Iraq War, the Trump-Russia scandal, and COVID-19 has contributed to this distrust.
