Joe Travis was a slave. Life wasn't gentle with Joe. If being a slave for decades wasn't enough, he also is the only known male survivor of the Alamo massacre. If that wasn't enough, after surviving and giving us most of what we know about the attack, he was resubjected to slavery and denied a pension. All of this despite be recognized as a hero of the battle. To ice the cake, Joe was then forgotten by history.
