Is This The Best Wireless Microphone for Creators We've Tested?!

In this episode, we unbox and test out a truly unique microphone system, the Synco G3, designed to work with DSLR cameras, smartphones, computers, and much more.

One of the challenges that I have had has been getting good audio out of my Canon T7i. I have tried half a dozen different microphones over the years, all with varying levels of issues. Most have some kind of background hiss that I have to then go and try to clean up in my post-processing. This is due to the T7i having a not-so-good audio preamp which causes issues. That is why when the team from Synco reach out to me and asked if I'd be interested in checking out their new G3 microphone system I jumped at the chance.

This truly is a microphone system, as it has three different components that all work together. There are two mics that slide into the base unit to charge, similar to a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con. This is convenient for keeping everything together and for charging purposes. There's also the main unit itself which has all of your settings menus and functions, plus more.

Each of the two microphones includes a silicone sleeve with a pop filter. There's a clip on the back of either of them to attach to your clothing. These aren't the most svelte mics out there, and I would definitely like to see another version with either a lavalier wired mic attached to the transmitter or a smaller overall unit. On the bottom of each microphone is a 3.5mm jack. Initially, I thought this was to connect an external microphone, but it turns out this is for a monitor earpiece so that the camera person or director can speak into the main unit attached to the camera and provide instruction. That's pretty dang cool.

Connecting the Synco G3 to a camera can be done in one of three different ways. It does include a 3.5 mm TTRS jack, which can be connected to the output or the headphone jack, depending on what your particular camera accepts. The output jack would provide cleaner audio, but the headphone jack will provide some audio if you're having issues. You can also connect it via USB-C to tablets and smartphones, and there are adapters included to connect to iPhones.

Since it does have two different microphones, that makes it ideal for use and interview situations. I no longer have to use a handheld microphone and aim it between myself and the subject to get my vocals captured, I can wear one and I can also have the person I'm interviewing wearing one and everything works perfectly.

This is also something pretty neat for podcasters as well, as there is actually onboard storage so you can record on this without needing a camera of any type. So if you're just looking to capture audio from one or two sources you can utilize this, record straight to the head unit, and then connect it to your PC later for editing.

These are all great features, but how does it work? I have been using this for almost 3 months now and have to say I've been very happy with the overall results. Probably my best audio comes from connecting it to my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra by USB-C cable. This setup provides clean, crisp audio and is super convenient to use. I've used this on many YouTube shorts. I've also recently discovered that you can utilize this with a GoPro hero Black 11. If you connect the TTRS jack to the shock mount it works wonderfully. Finally, connecting to my Canon T7i, this is about the best microphone from a fidelity standpoint that I have used to date on that camera. I still have a little bit of cleanup to do, but nowhere near what I used to have to do with my previous mics.

Why it RoX:
- Records two subjects at one time
- Charges in the base unit
- 3.5 mm TTRS jack or USBC connection
- Long battery life
- Microphones charge on the base unit
- Two-way communication with the head unit
- On-board recording

What could be improved?
- Microphones are a bit large
- No option to connect external lavalier microphone
- LCD display is not touch screen

Should you buy one?
I will admit I've been extremely happy with the overall performance of the G3 since I started testing it. It took me a little bit to get it dialed in because there are so many options on it, but once I did I've been very happy with my overall audio quality. I don't love the size of the microphone, unlike my lavalier microphone that I normally use this was distracting on camera to me. But if I'm out in the field, conducting interviews, this thing is awesome. I also love the fact that it not only works with my camera, it works with my GoPro and it works with my cell phone. This is overall a very nice microphone system that you will see me using much more in the future.
