RUMOR - More Wii U Ports to the Switch? New Super Mario Bros U & Super Luigi U Ports Coming?

In this video, we discuss our concerns regarding more ports rumored to be coming to the Nintendo Switch in New Super Mario Wii U & New Luigi U.

I'm going to get this out of the way right now, I really like New Super Mario Wii U, it's one of my favorite entries in the 2D Super Mario universe. I loved that the Wii U I bought, and got a steal of a deal on, came with New Super Mario Bros Wii U. What I don't like is the fact that Nintendo keeps going back and raiding the Wii U library for titles to bolster the Switch Library while still charging a launch day premium price for the games. To be blunt, this is highway robbery.

If New(read OLD) Super Mario Bros U and Luigi U come to the Switch, it is not entirely a bad thing. What I see as bad is if they plan on charging the original MSRP of $59.99 for this game. They're fun, a blast, but in 2018 they are not worth a premium price tag. $20, maybe even $30 and you'd have my interest. But not at $59.99.

The other thing pricing a re-release such as this at $59.99 does is devalue your existing library of first run games on the platform. My personal favorite game of 2017 was easily Super Mario Odyssey, it was simply brilliant, and at $60 worthy of that AAA-price. A 5-year old 2D platformer ported to new hardware should never be placed at the same level as a first run game. Mario Odyssey and New Super Mario/Luigi U are not even on the same planet, let alone same console in 2018, treating them as equals, in my opinion, hurts the perceived value of Odyssey while artificially inflating the value of New Super Mario/Luigi U.

A perfect comparison is Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. I can go to my local Wal-Mart or Meijer, both of which have the Wii U version of that game, and purchase it for $20. The Switch version of the SAME GAME is three-times more expensive. For what reason, because it is portable? ONE extra character?

If Nintendo were to use New Super Mario/Luigi U as a starting point for a new entry into the franchise then I'd say sign me up. But if this is a 1-for-1 port of the original on the Switch I'll be sitting this out, happily. And I think you should too quite honestly.
