In this video, we talked to Insurrection Industries and got the lowdown on the new Carby HDMI adapter for the Nintendo GameCube at the 2018 Portland Retro Gaming Expo.

I have to take a moment and thank the guys at Insurrection Industries. Something happened to my b-roll footage and it was completely unusable. All of the pictures that you see in this video come from their Twitter feed and is used with their permission.
One of my favorite systems of all time is the Nintendo GameCube. It represented a true change for the company, from disc-based games to some more adult type content, and it also features my favorite controller of all time. The problem with the GameCube is to get a decent picture out of it you need to purchase really expensive component video cables. Well, that was until recently where several companies are now introducing a plug and play HDMI options.

I have used Insurrection Industries SCART cables for my Master System, Genesis, Super Nintendo, and RGB modded N64 for a little while now and I've been really happy with the results. Seeing the Carby on display I am very excited to be able to test it out as it looks like a great solution at a very good price.

The Carby is a very small and compact unit, and it only plugs into the digital output on the back of your GameCube. That is one thing to note, you need to have the digital output port to be able to utilize a Carby; some later GameCubes removed this port. What you get in the box is pretty awesome too, you get an HDMI cable and you also get a remote control to adjust the settings on the unit. Everything comes in a pretty small and well-packaged box.

For only $75 the Carby is definitely an interesting solution, one we will be testing out shortly here on the channel. Talking with Insurrection Industries after the show they contacted me and offered a review unit for us to test out. I'm excited to say we will be testing the Insurrection Industries Carby in a future episode.

Again thanks to the entire Insurrection Industries crew for all of their help and assistance in making this video happen. I want to also thank them for spending some time with me to cover some of the features of all of their gear at PRGE 2018. These are definitely some cool guys and I'm looking forward to seeing what they come out with in the future.
