Transport & Protect Your Nintendo Switch While Traveling with the KMD Deluxe Travel Case
In this video, we unbox and check out the Travel Deluxe Case from KMD Gaming for the Nintendo Switch.
Going places. I remember doing it. I'm sure you remember doing it as well. And often when I did, I took my Nintendo Switch with me. The concern with traveling with the Switch, however, is that it can become scratched, nicked, or damaged if you just toss it into a backpack. That's where travel cases such as the Travel Deluxe Case from KMD Gaming can come in handy.
This particular case from KMD features a Kevlar-style design, not completely firm like Kevlar, but it doesn't have a ton of give to it. That should keep your Switch protected whether transporting it in a carry-on bag, laptop bag, or a backpack. Two elastic straps hold your Nintendo Switch into place, while pockets are provided to hold 8 Switch games in a flap in the top half of the case. There's also a netted area in the top half of the case to hold accessories such as headphones, screen wipes, and other smaller accessories. While there is some storage in this area, it is not large enough to transport the OEM power supply for example.
Transporting a collection of games is rather easy thanks to the flap and integrated 8-cartridge storage. The row closest to where the cartridge holder is attached to the center of the case is probably easier to remove cartridges from as the cartridges can get hung up on the stitching that makes up the outside of the outer row.
One of this cases greatest strengths is also one of its biggest weaknesses. The inside of the case is molded precisely to match up along the back of your Nintendo Switch and the JoyCons. It probably holds the Switch more securely than any other case, regardless of cost, that I've tested to date. That's great unless you have a case on your Switch. You will likely have to remove your case when transporting your Switch in this particular travel case.
I recently traveled with my family up to northern Wisconsin, and I did take my Switch with me. I loaded up the cartridge slots with a number of games, and it protected my Switch perfectly. It didn't slide around, it didn't get jostled, it just got protected in my laptop backpack. And my laptop is not light, especially with a 17-inch display and my Lepow portable monitor. It was enough weight here that bouncing around in the car the screen could have gotten cracked. When I arrived at my destination, and returned home, my Switch was in perfect condition.
Why it RoX:
- Budget-friendly
- Hold your Switch securely for transport
- Storage for Switch cartridges
- Extra storage for headphones and other accessories
What could be improved?
- More color options
- Not the best fitment when cases are installed on your Switch
Should you buy one?
I have tested a lot of travel cases for the Nintendo Switch, and this one probably has the best fitment on the system itself out of any case that I've tried to date. It's like it was molded precisely to fit the outer perimeter of the Switch. And while that is a good thing, it also makes it tough if you like using a grip case or other case to hold your Switch while playing. You will likely have to install and uninstall such cases. If that's not a big deal for you, definitely give this a look. It is priced right, and provides an exceptional amount of protection for your Switch while transporting a number of games at the same time. More color options would be nice down the road, and knowing KMD, they could be already working on that.
