Should You Buy the Nyko Shock 'N Rock Enhanced Grip with Rumble Support for the Nintendo Switch Lite

In this video, we unbox and test out the Nyko Shock 'N' Rock Enhanced Grip that adds rumble support to the Nintendo Switch Lite.

For a long time, I have thought the Switch Lite was the superior way to play the Switch in handheld mode. However, one area where the Switch is superior to the Switch Lite is in the fact that the Switch Lite does not have any sort of rumble support. While in most games it's just an inconvenience, there are some games where it actually hurts and handicaps game play. Nyko has just started to ship a new accessory for the Switch Lite that looks to address this shortcoming with the Shock 'N' Rock Enhanced Grip, which adds in rumble support.

I ordered the Shock 'N' Rock directly from the Nyko Website, as at this time that is the only place you can get these. I wish I could have gotten it locally or through Amazon, simply for piece of mind if I needed to exchange or return it if there were any issues, but that was not possible at this time. From when I placed my order to when the grip arrived took about 8-days. Not terrible but not Amazon Prime speed either.

The Shock N Rock arrived in a standard USPS shipping bag, without any padding or insulation around the product at all. Because of this, the box actually arrived a bit crunched up, thankfully the grip itself wasn't damaged. Inside the package, along with the box with the grip, there was also a Nyko key chain bottle opener and a foldable stand for the Switch Lite itself. These are nice little extras to receive with the grip itself, but I would have preferred to have received an undamaged box than gotten some tchotchkes.

From the box, setup was amazingly simple. Connect the included USB-C cable to a power supply to charge the Shock 'N' Rock, and once the grip is fully charged, simply slide the Switch Lite into position & plug the grip into the headphone jack and you're ready to start playing. There's actually a lock mechanism that makes sure your Switch Lite doesn't fall out when playing and in-use. A power button turns the Shock 'N' Rock on and off, and next to that button is a rotary dial to adjust the volume output. The volume output rocker on the Switch Lite adjust the intensity of the vibration and rumble of the grip. And when I say intensity, I mean INTENSITY! The rumble and vibration of the Shock N Rock is downright amazing! Like, I had to turn it down because it was too much initially! Once I set the Switch Lite's volume to about 7, it worked really well. But one thing I did notice was that the built-in speaker, well, leaves a lot to be desired. With headphones it works fine, but the single mono speaker is definitely a downgrade.

Why it RoX:
- Addresses one of the biggest flaws of the Switch Lite
- Rumble is extremely powerful
- Charges via included USB-C Cable
- Extremely comfortable ergonomics
- Only $25

What Could be Improved:
- Mono speaker
- Audio quality is much worse than stock
- Not widely available at retail
- No color options
- Only 1000mAh Battery

Should You Buy One?
I will say this for Nyko, regardless of the rumble features the Shock 'N' Rock is one of the most comfortable grips for the Switch Lite I have used to-date. It is amazingly comfortable! And the texturing on the grips is just right too. But when you add the rumble feature in, you get a truly unique experience that, frankly, should have been on the Switch Lite at launch. The rumble is powerful and really makes a difference, but at the expense of audio quality. The mono speaker is pretty much garbage, and really hampers the experience. A V2 with stereo speakers would make this a must-own.
