Should you buy the Insurrection Industries Carby Component Video Cables for the Nintendo Gamecube
In this video, we unbox and test out the Insurrection Industries Carby Component video cables for the Nintendo Gamecube.
For the longest time, the best way to get quality video out of your Nintendo GameCube was to use component video cables. While they made your GameCube look amazing they were released in very small quantities & are now very expensive. A number of companies have come out with HDMI solutions that replace component cables, however, it doesn't eliminate desire some have to use component video cables. That's where the guys at Insurrection Industries come into play, expanding their Carby lineup with their new component video cables designed for the Nintendo GameCube.
Much like their Carby HDMI adapter, the Carby component video cables can only be used on GameCube systems that feature a digital output. If your system only has the analog out, unfortunately, this will not work for you.
The cables themselves feature thick insulation, quality BNC connectors, & BNC to RCA adapters. Much like on there HDMI adapter, the connector that plugs into the system closely mimics that of the original Nintendo connector. It is a metal housing that precisely matches the OEM equipment. The cable itself is about 6 ft long and features your component video outputs. At least for video, for audio, you will still need to utilize a set of original composite video cables.
Once I got everything situated, I was running into a slight issue. What I didn't realize initially was that using the BNC to RCA adapters on the RetroTink, the RCA jacks are placed so closely together that they actually were touching. I simply insulated the connectors and everything worked fine. And I will say the picture quality was nothing short of amazing. The colors were vibrant, who is no blurring or delay, it just looked great. It honestly reminded me a lot of what my car be HDMI adapter does right out of the box.

What could be improved?

- connectors touch when using RCA adapters in a RetroTink
- slightly more expensive than the Carby HDMI adapter
- I ran into some issues with my capture card due to the 960p resolution
Should you buy one?
The original Nintendo GameCube component cables are highly sought-after, but perhaps a little bit less now than before with HDMI solutions such as Insurrection Industries own Carby HDMI adapter. these component cables have exceptional build quality, deliver great video, and are 1/3 of the cost. If you own a Framemeister or an OSSC, I think you may want to consider these, as those devices allow you to really tune your video quality output for the GameCube. However, if you're just going into your television, you may want to simply pick up Insurrection Industries Carby HDMI adapter instead. It's a simpler connection, fewer cables are involved, and you can go right into your TV. I will be updating the firmware on my OSSC soon, and with that, I'm hoping that I can access additional features that will really unlock the benefits of these cables.
