2020 MoGameCon Jr Coverage: Awesome Pickups, New Collections, Imports and More
In this video, we head to the MoGameCon Jr over the first weekend of February, 2020.
The first retro gaming convention I ever attended was the 2018 MoGameCon. It was there that I met John Riggs for the first time and participated in my first panel, I met fans of this channel for the first time, and really got to feel what this community was all about. As such, I'll always support the event and the people who put it on. When I heard they were planning on hosting a smaller event, I was definitely in!
Just 2-weeks removed from the Bloomington-Normal show, I was still hunting for a few things. One was a copy of Gremlins 2 for the NES. I remember seeing this when u attended the Nintendo World Championships and thinking it was neat, but I've never owned it. I do own the Gameboy version, but that's just not quite the same. I've already been on the lookout for a TurboGrafx 16, but they've always been so blasted expensive. Beyond this, I just wanted to help out the gang from Live Action Games, hang out with cool people, and make fun of Zach Maynard.
Within the first few minutes inside the show, I ran into Patrick from Show-Me Retro, and he had 2 TurboGrafx systems for sale. Neither had any games or accessories, but the price was right and I snagged one of them! That's right, I finally own a TG16! I love that both my Master System & now TG16 came from MoGameCons!
From here I headed to the Live Action Games both to help Adrian & Kristen out, but I got stopped almost as soon as I got there by Mr Maynard. Zach, while terrible at winning raffles, was awesome at finding a copy of Gremlins 2, with box and Blockbuster instructions. I don't want to know the lengths he went through to get this, but I am very thankful and appreciate him keeping an eye out for me. And while he offered it as a gift, I did pay him for the game.
A bit later I grabbed the camera and did some more scouting, and again I wound up at Show-Me Retro's booth. I don't know how I missed it initially, but he had a Mega Drive Mini Tower of Power for sale! For those unaware, this is the Model 1 Mega Drive CD, 32X, Sonic & Knuckles Cart & Sonic Cart. While available in Japan, this never saw a release here in the West. I really dig my Genesis Mini, and my actual Model 2 Genesis Tower of Power, so even though it's just for show I had to have it.
My final pickup was also my least expensive one. Whole walking past a booth I caught a glimpse of some Famicom Disc System games. Upon further inspection I saw a few titles I had, some RPGs I didn't have any interest in, and a copy of Ultraman for $2. I offered the seller $1, with only an hour left in the show, and he took it.
I really dig these one-day shows. You get in and out and still have your weekend left for other things. I want to thank Charlie, Chad, and Jake "The Snake" for putting on yet another awesome event that feels just right in the MoGameCon family. I also want to thank the fans who came up to talk, say hi, and have a great time with us at the show, including Helen and Aaron from Game & Browse (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTvyv1OQYaRW36j22MCczhw). I, for one, cannot wait for August for the full MoGameCon to return!
