Play PAL OR NTSC Super NES OR Super Famicom Games Region Free!

One of the drawbacks of early Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games and systems is the fact they're region locked based on cartridge size and shape. The Japanese and European SNES used the same cartridge shape, but the European version ran at 50hz, while the Japanese and US versions ran at 60hz. This has made it impossible to play European games on Japanese and American systems and vice versa. But now a new adapter makes it possible, in theory, to region unlock your 16-bit Nintendo system.

The adapter is basic in it's design. It's a pass-through design, but there's a chip that looks to address the clock speed issues. this is what makes it possible for the adapter to play both NTSC and PAL games on the same system. The adapter bypasses region lock chip on Super Nintendo and Super Famicom consoles, and it lets you run games from any country on any console. We still need to check if a PAL games plays at 50HZ or it switches to 60HZ, but we are interested in learning more to find out!

So in the end, who cares? Well, many games released in the EU and Austrailian PAL markets have games that are a lot less expensive than USA games. Plus, for those in EU Regions, it might unlock games that you were never able to previously play! In the end, for around 15 Euros, this is a powerful tool. Now it also doesn't do any patching or translating, but it'll be interesing to see how this works.
