In this video, we unbox our June 2020 Video Games Monthly box featuring import Famicom, Super Famicom, & N64 games!

This is our third month with being subscribed to Video Games Monthly, there have been some highs, there have been some lows, and there have been some really unique surprises with this subscription service. In May, I wound up with two factory sealed PlayStation 2 games, something I never expected. I also wound up with some pretty cool collectibles between the first few boxes that I have received. As such, I was very excited for my June box to arrive.

Upon opening the box, which arrived around June 9th, I was very surprised and pleased to see the selection of games that were in the box. If you have followed me on the channel for any period of time, you know that I am a fan of import games. Be it Famicom, Super Famicom, or N64, I really enjoy getting NTSC-J or PAL import games. And I got just that in this box.

What we got:
Famicom - Shin Satomi Hakken-Den (Value = $3)
Super Famicom - Romancing SaGa 3 (Value = $4)
Genesis - World of Illusion Starring Disney's Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck (Value = $16)
Japanese Diddy Kong Racing - (Value = $6)
Playstation 2 - Rise to Honor NIB (Value $9)

Total Value = $38

The fact that Video Games Monthly includes an option to import games is really awesome. One of the reasons why I am subscribed to the service is I desperately want a copy of Super Back to the Future 2 for the Super Famicom. I am hoping to eventually get it. The Famicom and Super Famicom games this month were just okay, more cool oddities than actual games that I will likely play. I am not an RPG fan at all, and not being able to read Japanese, Japanese RPGs are completely worthless to me.

Diddy Kong Racing for the N64, however, I am super excited to play as my N64 has been region modded to play Japanese and American games. My American copy of Diddy Kong Racing is complete in box, so this loose copy gives me the option to enjoy the game well maintaining the integrity of the box and instructions on my American version.

Finally, World of Illusion Starring Disney's Mickey and Donald is an amazing title, one of the best on the Sega Genesis. The graphics are top-notch, and the music is really, really good too. Play control is very tight, and it's all around just a great game. I had Castle of illusion in my collection before, so adding World of Illusion is very nice.

I will also say that this is probably the cleanest set of games that I have gotten from Video Games Monthly thus far. The pins were all in great shape, and while I cleaned them with 1Up Cleaning Cards, I don't necessarily think it was required. Overall I'm glad to see that the quality of the cartridge connectors have been addressed versus what I've seen in previous months.

One thing I would like to see them add is an option to the website is the option to include or exclude specific genres of games that you would be interested in. For example, I have no desire to get a single RPG, ever. If I could select that as an option, it would help them put games in the hands of people who would enjoy them more. But overall, a good monthly box and I cannot wait for July!
