In this #YouTube #Shorts episode, we share an excerpt from our interview with Hyperkin Public Relations Specialist Terence C about the updated firmware coming to the Retron SQ that fixes the Aspect Ratio.

One interesting aspect about the soon-to-ship Retron SQ is the aspect ratios on board. You can choose either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, and neither one of them are correct for any of these systems. the Game Boy and Game Boy color both use a 10:9 aspect ratio, and the Game Boy Advance uses a 3:2. As such, as the review unit was shipped, no matter what the games will not display in the proper aspect ratio.

During our interview with Terence C. from Hyperkin, he mentioned that the aspect ratios were fixed and updated in a passing comment. Later in the interview, I asked for clarification regarding this, and he again stated definitively that they have corrected the aspect ratio issue and that they are hoping to get this out in the planned Day-1 Patch for the system.

I am very excited to hear that they have listened to the community and addressed this issue so quickly. In less than a week they have addressed controller lag, incorrect aspect ratios, and some of the Game Boy Advance playback issues. They are not done and there are still additional updates and performance tweaks to be made to make GBA play at the proper speed moving forward. However, in such a short time, this is truly exciting news.
