March 1995 - Todd Rundgren Delivers Keynote Interactive Music Address at SXSW
1 year ago
155
Rundgren delivers a brief history of the music industry, which was reaching "an important nexus" as computer technologies merged with music distribution, demonstrates his 'No World Order' interactive music project, and discusses the difficulty in exploring new musical ideas ('Smells Like Teen Spirit' is 'More Than a Feeling' is 'Louie Louie'). The industry "has become flabby, like a fat old Elvis," Rundgren told the audience. He also delves into "the distraction of the new capabilities."
This was the first-ever interactive music keynote speech at SXSW.
