I wrote this poem 50 years ago while reading John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden.” It’s a playful and lyrical revision of the Creation story of the Garden of Eden.

To play with the interconnectedness of language, myth, legend, and lived experience is to be reminded of the unity of all things. As the story goes, it began in the Garden of Eden, but it lives on through us today.
