Oscar ballots: Voters believe Lydia Tar is real and hate 'Banshees & 'Blonde.
Hollywood Reporter's "Brutally Honest Oscar ballot" feature has been a huge success. Other magazines and websites have begun to copy the idea. Next Best Picture has copied the idea with "Anonymous Oscar Balances". It is basically the same thing. They identify the Oscar branch of the voter and then they simply transcribe their feelings about the nominees, how they vote and why. NBP had three voters, but only two of them expressed interest. Maybe it's because these two voters despise Banshees Of Inisherin, the most underrated f-king Best Picture nominee. These are highlights from Voter 1, a "voter atlarge" in...
These are highlights from Voter 1, a "voter atlarge" in AMPAS. It was on "Everything Everywhere All At Once". I saw it at SXSW this year. As a white middle-aged man, I struggled to understand it at first. Although I knew there was a lot of movie there, it didn't appeal to me. It was then one of the most bizarre QAs I had ever seen. It became a kind of group therapy with the audience. Then I watched it again. It wasn't until my third viewing did it click. It's thrilling to watch a new generation of films that don't speak to me emotionally. It's an amazing achievement, I think. It's a remarkable feat to be able to put together that movie. On "The Banshees Of Inisherin", I actually hate that movie. These two characters made me mad. I would like to get therapy for them both and call it quits. It's possible that I don't understand it, maybe it's because it's an Irish thing. But they are both such jerks. It worked for some people, but it didn't work for me. Brendan Fraser should win Best Actor. Although I have mixed feelings about "The Whale", they are not my main concern. He was exceptional to me. I love a good comeback story. Best Supporting Actress: This category was a subject of intense disagreement between me and my partner. He would like it to go Stephanie Hsu. Jamie Lee Curtis is my choice. This has been a heated conversation, but I keep returning to the fact Jamie has never won. He's like, "How could you vote for that over Jobu Tupaki?" You can watch me! In all honesty, though, I would be delighted for any one of these five women win. This category may be the most difficult this year. Best Supporting Actor: It is not even a race. Ke Huy Quan [From NBP] While I don't hate Banshees, I feel that people pretend to love it because they believe it to be a brilliant metaphor. It's not. It's a ridiculously overwrought film about Irish blokes. Voter #2 is part of the Sound Branch, and they also hate Banshees. Here are some highlights On All Quiet Babylon. I watched a portion of "All Quiet On The Western Front" and decided that I didn't need to see any body parts flying about, so I turned it off. "Babylon" was too outrageous, and I don’t like to think about Hollywood when I watch movies. I want to escape. Banshees: It was a terrible waste of money and time. Two men used to be close friends. Now they don't. What's the point? Tar: Tar was a wonderful film. It was a great film for the price it was. The premise was not my favorite. Cate Blanchett does an excellent job as always. Although I didn't like her being a predatory lesbian, I can say that I enjoyed watching her. I also read about the person who wrote the reviews, and she did not seem like that. It's engaging but depressing. It was a great thing that the music was actually performed live. Best Actress: Cate Blanchett is a great actress, but Michelle Yeoh wins my vote in "Everything Everywhere All At Once." Andrea Riseborough does a fine job in "To Leslie," but Danielle Deadwyler was not accepted. She would have been my choice. "Till" was a wonderful, nuanced film that made you feel so much. It's not clear what happened. It was remarkable in how it dealt with the violence and bravery shown by this mother, but she's not even on the bal...
