You fight for what is important (The persistent widow Luke 18:1-8)
You fight for what is important (The persistent widow Luke 18:1-8)
I simply typed in the Google search bar, “somethings are worth fighting for,” and immediately a list of seven things worth fighting for popped up. It said we should fight to make a difference, to be happy, for love, for change, for our dreams, for our beliefs, and for our future. All these are important things, but I would like to add something to this list, we should be willing to fight for our unanswered prayers. Luke 18:1 says that the entire purpose of Jesus presenting the parable of the persistent widow is so that we would understand that we should not be weary in our prayer life and that we should always be praying. Somethings are worth fighting for and I would say that if it is important enough for us to petition God for it then it is worth spiritually fighting for. We face any enemy that is unseen and unheard of around us, Ephesians 6:12 says that we battle not against flesh and blood but again principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Enemies we cannot see, or touch cannot be fought with weapons of warfare but instead in the spiritual realm with the weapon of prayer.
The enemy wants to destroy your marriage so shouldn’t you be willing to fight for it in your prayer life. The enemy wants to destroy your children so shouldn’t you be willing to sacrifice and fight for them continually in your prayer life. A simple truth of life is that you are willing to fight for what is important to us in this life, we see it all around us people are willing to inconvenience themselves for causes they think are important. They will give up their time, effort, and money to back a cause that they value, and feel is important. As followers of Jesus Christ shouldn’t we be willing to spiritual fight for the things around us that are important just as the world fights for their causes. Shouldn’t we continually be praying for the salvation of our friends and neighbors, shouldn’t we be constantly lifting our children before God in prayer, shouldn’t we be daily praying for our political leaders and those in authority, and shouldn’t we be diligently seeking God for His Kingdom to come and His will to be done. The widow was willing to fight for what was important to her and we should be willing to do the same.
