Last month's earthquakes in Türkiye have claimed the lives of more than 50,000 people, while 1.5 million residents are now homeless. Hundreds of thousands of buildings have been left in ruins. 'We burn firewood and warm ourselves by the stove with our relatives, we live and sleep in tents,' says a Turk, Mesut Oksar.

On February 6, Türkiye was shaken by two major earthquakes, which were the most devastating to hit the nation in the last 500 years. 'It happened at 4 am. It was as if a nuclear bomb had gone off,' recalls one of the survivors, Galip Yildiz.

Rescuers from 88 countries came here to help. Staff of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations were among the first to arrive.
