MZTV 1177: God's Will Vs. His Intention

Some confusion arises when a sovereignty-of-God guy like me says something like, "God's will is opposed constantly." Is there a difference between what God says He wants and what He REALLY wants? There certainly is. What God says He wants is commonly referred to as His "revealed will," whereas what He really wants is His "secret will." Another way this could be said is "relative vs. absolute will."

God cannot ever be lawless and so He rightly lays out laws that are just and fair. But since He needs lawless people in His world to oppose Him–that He might demonstrate His strength and power against them—He causes people (behind the scenes) to break His laws. Case in point: the crucifixion of His own Son. God's revealed will said, "Thou shalt not commit murder." But His secret will was that men should walk the earth who would do that very thing.
Both things are of God.

This week, I analyze a chapter in a book by A.E. Knoch ("The Problem of Evil and the Judgments of God") called, "God's Will and Intention." This is mature truth. "Who has withstood His intention?" (Romans 9:19). Easy answer: No one.
