One reason for the detail is to tell us the character, the qualities of Rebekah. Her importance in the plan of GOD for the coming Nation of Israel. So it requires some detail. Also, we are introduced to the brother of Rebekah: Laban.
Ishmael does return to bury his father alongside Isaac. They buried him in the cave of Machpelah we saw back in GEN 23.
Isaac married Rebekah when he was 40, but it was 20 years later before she had children. The twins, and the details of her pregnancy is prophetic as we know.
ROM 9:10-12, And not only this, but there was Rebekah also, when she had conceived twins by one man, our father Isaac, for though the twins were not yet born, and had not done anything good or bad, in order that God’s purpose according to His choice might stand, not because of works, but because of Him who calls, it was said to her, The older will serve the younger.
