Is This 100-Year-Old Coal Camp Hell?

Derby, Virginia is an old coal camp in Wise County that celebrates its 100 year anniversary in 2023. Derby is one of the more unique coal towns you will encounter with many of its homes built of a similar red block construction. Originally part of the Stonega Coke and Coal Company, construction on Derby began in 1922 and was completed in 1923. Check out this video for a closer look at one of the better coal camps you’ll see.
