Jeera rice is a popular Indian dish made by cooking basmati rice with cumin seeds and other aromatic spices. ingredients:
1 cup basmati rice
1 3/4 cups water
2 tablespoons ghee or oil
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
2-3 whole cloves
2-3 green cardamom pods
1 small cinnamon stick
Salt to taste
Instructions:
Rinse the basmati rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 20-30 minutes.
In a pot or saucepan, heat the ghee or oil over medium-high heat.
Add the cumin seeds and whole spices (cloves, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick). Sauté for a few seconds until fragrant.
Drain the rice and add it to the pot. Stir well to coat the rice with the spices and ghee or oil.
Add the water and salt to taste. Stir well and bring to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Simmer for about 18-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the water has been absorbed.
Remove the pot from heat and let it sit covered for 5-10 minutes.
Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot with your favorite Indian curry or dal.
