Byron, Georgia — On Friday, July 15, 2022, Byron Police officers received a lookout notice for an SUV driving erratically on GA Hwy 42 approaching the town. The caller reported the vehicle swerving into opposing lanes, nearly causing collisions with oncoming traffic. As the vehicle reached the intersection of Hwy 42 and Hwy 49, bystanders managed to block its path. Upon arriving at the scene, Byron Police officers tried to communicate with the uncooperative driver, who refused to respond to their commands. To prevent her escape, officers placed Stop Sticks under the vehicle's tires.

After a few minutes, the driver reversed into a car behind her, then moved forward, striking a Byron Police officer and a police vehicle. She then backed up once more and drove forward, hitting two bystanders and another police car before heading north on Hwy 49 with one flat tire from the Stop Sticks. As officers tried to block her path, she reversed into a third police car and drove forward, hitting another police vehicle for the second time, causing significant damage.

The suspect proceeded on Hwy 49 for a short distance until Byron officers managed to stop her and take her into custody. The driver was identified as 24-year-old Sierra Hibbert from Warner Robins, GA. She also had a small child with her, who was unharmed during the incident. Fortunately, no officers or civilians sustained serious injuries. The Peach County Sheriffs assisted in the incident and are handling the investigation and criminal charges against Hibbert.
