Destiny of the Restoration | Elder Holland on the early Apostles’ missions to England

As early members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were settling Nauvoo, Illinois, the Prophet Joseph Smith looked to England — sending 10 of 12 members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles overseas to do missionary work. “I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that mission saved the Church,” said Elder Jeffrey R. “Joseph Smith had shown the most remarkable courage and the most remarkable prophetic insight in the trouble that they were having in Kirtland, [Ohio]. With the failure of the bank, the international economic crisis, he had every reason to keep his closest friends near by him, and he did the unthinkable. He sent them all to England.”
