Do Parents Have Rights Anymore?

There is a new debate on Capitol Hill right now to defend parents’ God-given rights to know and have a say in what their children are being taught in taxpayer-supported public schools.
As reported earlier this week by Fox News:
"This week, the Parents Bill of Rights (H.B. 5) will be debated on the floor of the House of Representatives. This bill will help provide greater transparency in public schools, give parents statutory rights alongside their Constitutional right to direct the upbringing of their children, and pressure our public education system to focus on academics instead of social indoctrination."
Today this critical new piece of legislation is going through the amendment process in Congress, and tomorrow, they will vote.
This is a crucial moment for parents to take an active role in their children’s education. If the radical Left gets its wish, you might lose your voice and not even be allowed to know what your children are being taught in school. It’s beyond belief that we’re even dealing with this kind of Orwellian school system where Big Brother chooses the curriculum and parents who object are labeled as enemies of the state and treated accordingly.
After all, it was only a few months ago that we reported on a Justice Department memo that essentially instructed the FBI to treat concerned parents who attend school board meetings as terrorists. We filed a critical Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) over this outrageous abuse of power.
The ACLJ has been dedicated to defending parental rights for decades – from appearing before school boards in defense of parents to litigation.
Our sister organization ACLJ Action has worked directly with congressional leadership and the Republican Study Committee to ensure H.B. 5, also known as the Parents Bill of Rights, passes the House this week and eventually becomes law. Their members have already sent over 11,000 letters to members of Congress demanding that they pass this important legislation.
Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes more discussion of the Parents Bill of Rights and what the ACLJ is doing to support this crucial legislation in defense of America’s families. We also discussed our action at the International Court of Justice to defend our close ally Israel from international antisemitic attacks.
