Visit to the islands of Kerkennah#Tunisia

This small archipelago largely forgotten on tourist maps allows a total change of scenery, at the heart of the local way of life. Foreigners, warmly welcomed by the inhabitants of the islands, find themselves immersed in an art of living in its own right, where time is punctuated by the sun and the tide. The palm grove of the Kerkennah Islands is a maritime oasis landscape made up of a lake and a natural maritime landscape. KERkennah is away from modern circuits, kerkenah is a conservatory of traditions. Located about twenty kilometers off Sfax, the Kerkennah Islands form a sumptuous archipelago where nature reconnects with the past.
As soon as they arrive on site, visitors are spellbound by the atmosphere of the place, imbued with both warmth and mystery. The archipelago has the particularity of offering a very flat relief and a particularly dry climate. Only a few typical trees such as palms manage to survive there.
Around the land, warm, turquoise and translucent water populated by shells and colorful creatures calls for swimming. It must be said that the beaches, long and covered with fine sand, offer a real haven of tranquility to travellers.
The Kerkennah Islands live mainly from fishing. As soon as the sun rises you can already see the fishermen at work on their feluccas, traditional sailing boats. Here, fishing is still done according to ancestral methods, with traps to be brought up regularly. In the evening, the workers return to the mainland to sell their products around grilled octopus and mint teas.
The destination is gradually opening up to ecological tourism and offers many opportunities: fishing trips with the locals, bike rides, lazing around and swimming, tasting freshly caught fish and seafood, memorable encounters over tea with mint… Tunisia fifty years ago!
