Build a Range Hood for under $180

This week we finally built a Range Hood with fan insert for our island range. We purchased a ~600CFM hood insert off ebay for $120 and the remaining cost was a $40 sheet of 1/2" oak plywood and a $8 2x8!

We designed the hood ourselves using sketchup with the thought in mind of making it as sturdy as possible, so if you bang your head....your head hurts!

The hood is vented outside and it elevated 35" above the stove, so that you can't band your head.

Even the most inexpensive island range hood I could find was nearing $500 to $1200 so this is a very practical project that should last forever.
