Pakistan’s Election Commission has postponed the Punjab elections until October 8, due to the threat of terrorism, a lack of funds and a shortage of police personnel.

The poll had been scheduled for April 30, but the Election Commission of Pakistan withdrew the election programme in an order on Wednesday.

The commission said that the government was unable to help it conduct free and fair elections. The move has been condemned by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf party, which described the postponement as the “end of rule of law in Pakistan”.
