How to Make Chalk Paint

Today's video is all about saving you some cash and making your own chalk paint! As you probably know chalk paint goes on ANYTHING and it's really amazing and durable once sealed. In this video I take you step by step while we make our own homemade DIY chalk paint using plaster of paris, tap water and regular latex paint.

The trick is 1:3 ration of plaster to paint. Mix the plaster and water very well otherwise you will never get all the chunks of plaster mixed. Add paint and mix to your heart's content. I used a glass mason jar to mix the paint, you don't necessarily need to use glass but I would recommend using a container with a rounded base as it will allow you to mix the plaster and paint evenly.

After your paint is mixed you apply as normal paint although chalk paint will cover more area. Be very careful with the painted objects as the paint will scratch off very easily at this point. Once the objects are dry you need to seal them. We chose to use a sherwin-williams deck sealer in place of the more common wax. Once sealed you will be amazed at the durability of this paint and it looks GREAT!
