Ministers speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal Liberal party holds its weekly caucus meeting. Mélanie Joly (foreign affairs) responds to questions about U.S. President Joe Biden's upcoming visit to Canada, the Roxham Road crossing in Quebec, and the crisis in Haiti. Sean Fraser (immigration), Pablo Rodriguez (Canadian heritage), and François-Philippe Champagne (innovation) are also asked about the U.S. president's visit.
Steven Guilbeault (environment) faces questions about the new United Nations climate-change report calling for countries like Canada to reach its net-zero emissions targets by 2040 instead of 2050. He and Jonathan Wilkinson (natural resources) are asked about clean energy investments in the upcoming federal budget.
Following the caucus meeting, Joly comments on remarks made by Israel’s finance minister denying the existence of a Palestinian people.
