Why a person can't transfer their consciousness to a machine

A person transferring their consciousness into a machine or android body has long been a sci-fi trope. I think some transhumanists think eventually people will be able to transfer their mind into a computer brain. But I don't think they will. At best, that might be able to make a copy of themselves. I don't think they will be able to transfer their individual consciousness to a machine though.
