Germany: Public sector workers continue protest in Berlin for better pay, working conditions

Aktivisten der Gewerkschaft Bund und Kommunen haben am Mittwoch in Berlin nach dem Scheitern der beiden vorangegangenen Tarifrunden mit einer Kundgebung bessere Lohn- und Arbeitsbedingungen gefordert. "Die Arbeitgeber haben uns in der ersten Verhandlungsrunde kein Angebot gemacht, in der zweiten Verhandlungsrunde wollen sie uns ... fünf Prozent geben", sagte der stellvertretende DBB-Bundesvorsitzende und tarifpolitische Vorstand Volker Geyer. Die Gewerkschaft der Beschäftigten von Bund und Kommunen fordert angesichts der hohen Inflation eine Mindestlohnerhöhung von 10,5 Prozent, die laut Geyer für alle Beschäftigten "mindestens 500 Euro" im Monat betragen muss. "Die Verhandlungen erweisen sich als äußerst schwierig, deshalb, liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen, werden wir dafür sorgen, dass, wenn wir nicht weiterkommen, solche Veranstaltungen zu einem Dauerthema werden, wenn die Arbeitgeber nicht verstehen, wohin die Reise geht", schloss der Bundesvorsitzende der Deutschen Polizeigewerkschaft, Heiko Teggatz. Im vergangenen Monat hatte die Regierung Berichten zufolge eine fünfprozentige Erhöhung über mehr als zwei Jahre verteilt sowie Einmalzahlungen von 1.500 Euro im Mai und weiteren 1.000 Euro im Januar 2024 angeboten. Die nächste Verhandlungsrunde ist für Ende des Monats angesetzt.

Activists from the union of federal and municipal workers staged a rally in Berlin on Wednesday demanding better pay and working conditions after the failure of the previous two rounds of wage negotiations. “The employers did not make us an offer in the first round of negotiations, and in the second round of negotiations, they want to give us … five percent,” said deputy DBB federal chairman and board member for collective bargaining policy Volker Geyer. The union of federal and municipal workers are demanding a minimum wage increase of 10.5 percent amid sky-high inflation, while Geyer added that it must amount to ‘at least 500 euros’ a month for all workers. “The negotiations are proving to be extremely difficult, so dear colleagues, we will ensure that if we do not make progress, such events will become a permanent topic if employers do not understand where the journey is going,” concluded Federal Chairman of the Deutsche Polizeigewerkschaft (police union) Heiko Teggatz. Last month, the government reportedly offered a five percent hike spread over more than two years, as well as one-off payments of 1,500 euros in May, and another 1,000 euros in January 2024. The next round of talks is scheduled for the end of the month.

Des militants du syndicat des travailleurs fédéraux et municipaux ont organisé un rassemblement à Berlin mercredi pour réclamer de meilleurs salaires et conditions de travail après l'échec des deux précédents cycles de négociations salariales. "Les employeurs ne nous ont pas fait d'offre lors du premier cycle de négociations, et lors du second, ils veulent nous donner ... cinq pour cent", a déclaré Volker Geyer, président fédéral adjoint de la DBB et membre du conseil d'administration chargé de la politique de négociation collective. Le syndicat des travailleurs fédéraux et municipaux réclame une augmentation du salaire minimum de 10,5 %, dans un contexte d'inflation galopante. M. Geyer a ajouté que cette augmentation devait s'élever à "au moins 500 euros" par mois pour tous les travailleurs. "Les négociations s'avèrent extrêmement difficiles, alors chers collègues, nous ferons en sorte que si nous ne progressons pas, de tels événements deviennent un sujet permanent si les employeurs ne comprennent pas où va le voyage", a conclu le président fédéral de la Deutsche Polizeigewerkschaft (syndicat de la police), Heiko Teggatz. Le mois dernier, le gouvernement aurait proposé une augmentation de 5 % étalée sur plus de deux ans, ainsi que des paiements uniques de 1 500 euros en mai et de 1 000 euros en janvier 2024. Le prochain cycle de négociations est prévu pour la fin du mois.
