Uganda’s parliament passed severe anti-LGBTQ legislation on Tuesday, March 21, which proposes tough new penalties that could see an individual receive the death penalty. According to the bill, the death penalty can be invoked for cases involving “aggravated homosexuality." The bill also proposes “a life sentence in prison for an individual convicted of committing the offence of homosexuality”, while an “attempt to perform the act” would attract a seven-year prison term. Children also face jail terms under the laws, a parliamentary statement said. The new laws now await presidential approval. Credit: Parliament of Uganda via Storyful
