Experimental US Army machine gun test

I tested out a real life BFG. What would you do if the the enemy is in a fortified position? A concrete house where your bullets are bouncing right off. Meet SIG's MG338. Designed specifically to eliminate any of those pesky hiding places.

We found that in Afghanistan the enemy liked to entrench in buildings and fire harassing shots. They liked to find elevated fighting positions that were out of US Forces firing range. This weapon would address any capability gap within the US Forces. It can chew through a building’s walls thanks to its higher kinetic energy.
The MG338 is one step down from the 50 caliber machine gun while being the same weight and length as the M240. Around 27 lbs and 47 inches with a 24 inch barrel. If you’re on a patrol in some open mountain terrain your maximum effective range is 800 meters with the M240 and the accuracy starts to drift at that range. You don’t want to have the same range as the enemy you want twice the range. The MG338 has been proven to engage targets at 2,000 meters. But is this machine gun necessary and what new features would it give the next generation of infantry?
It’s a real life BFG from doom. The gun that lays waste to every enemy in your path. The MG338 is a big fucking gun and I could feel the power of the round while going full auto on it. The engineers at SIG gave the machine gun a recoil mitigation system so the free floating barrel moves backwards with each shot. The consequence is a smoother ride, lower rate of fire, higher accuracy especially at long range. Reloading belt feds was once a chore but thanks to quality of life improvements it’s much easier with the next generation of machine guns. The feed tray breaks away in the smallest way possible which makes reloading from the prone a snap.
Its fascinating when real life future weapons technology appears in culture. We see it in the form of video games and movies. Call of Duty included the MG338 briefly then removed it. The video game version is a lot like its real life counterpart with a high damage profile and low rate of fire. The only difference is in the game our operator has no problem shoulder and hip firing from the standing position. I can confirm that would be impossible in real life. If you were one of the soldiers who was able to fire the M240 standing I would love to see you try that with the MG338. Shooting from the prone dust was kicked up everywhere and the rounds slamming into the berm 50 meters away were like mini explosions.
The hybrid steel brass ammo allows this machine gun to fire at higher velocities and with greater kinetic energy. You’re looking at around 6,300 Joules of muzzle energy which is twice the legacy weapons.
