Inspired by the Book of Deuteronomy, and this song is connected to the idea of the Covenant as depicted there: the notion of the Lord God being the Lord "your" or "our" God. The possessive pronoun depicts an understanding of the Covenant and what God is doing out of his devotion.

Look at Deuteronomy 29: 9-13
9 Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do. 10 All of you are standing today in the presence of the Lord your God—your leaders and chief men, your elders and officials, and all the other men of Israel, 11 together with your children and your wives, and the foreigners living in your camps who chop your wood and carry your water. 12 You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the Lord your God, a covenant the Lord is making with you this day and sealing with an oath, 13 to confirm you this day as his people, that he may be your God as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

“The Lord our God”

I pray to the Lord our God for his forgiveness
That he may look beyond our sinful ways
That his love will endure
As it has before
In mercy, love, according to his willing grace

I bow to the Lord our God for he is mighty
His arm providing all we’d ever need
His power knows no end
And when it does descend
His mercy, love, is written on his face

His glory and his grace lie all around us
His majesty and mercy abide through all that is
May humility and love forever ground us
May our hearts find their selves entwined with his
May the Lord God, be the Lord our God.

I know that in the Lord I am not worthy
And look around and see no one that is
How could we e’er deserve
When we hesitate to serve
Him fully with our heart and strength and soul

Your glory and your grace lie all around us
Your majesty and mercy abide for all is yours
May humility and love forever ground us
May our hearts find their selves entwined yours
May You Lord God, be the Lord our God.

We find our strength in you
Inspiring all we do
when fall down to our knees
and humbly ask you please
We find ourselves face to face
Within the embrace of your grace for

Your glory. . .
