The UN children’s agency UNICEF issued a plea for all girls to be allowed to return to higher education in Afghanistan, as the school year began on March 21, according to the Education Ministry. UNICEF said more than a million girls and young women have been impacted by Taliban-imposed restrictions on secondary and university education. While access to secular education has been restricted, Reuters reported enrolment in religious schools for women has increased. Credit: Anwar Afghan via Storyful
