Entertainment Law Commissions: A music commission is an agreement between a composer and a person or organization who wants music composed for them. The commissioning party agrees to pay the composer for their work, and the composer agrees to create a piece of music according to the commissioning party's specifications. While the details of each music commission agreement vary, there are certain elements that are essential to any contract. First, the agreement must specify who will retain the copyright to the music. Second, the agreement must state how much the composer will be paid for their work. Finally, the agreement should include a clause specifying that any disputes related to the agreement will be resolved through arbitration. By including these key elements, both parties can be confident that their rights will be protected in the event of a breach of contract.
