This video by real estate lawyer Steve Vondran explains what you need to know about reporting criminal convictions to the BRE.

Even DUI’s and marijuana convictions must be reported. If the crimes meet the “substantially similar test” then the licensee (i.e. commercial or residential salesperson, business broker, mortgage loan broker, or property manager) could face license discipline.

If the BRE cannot provide clear and convincing evidence that the crime or disciplinary action you plead guilty or plead nolo contendre to was "substantially related" to the "duties, qualifications and functions" of the real estate profession, we have strong grounds to fight either an accusation or statement of issues.
