WHAT IS THE 9TH CIRCUIT COURT SYSTEM?

Attorney Steve explains the federal court system; in general, There are 11 “circuits” made of different federal district courts. The 9th circuit covers California, Arizona, Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and Nevada. Also, the Mariana Islands, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Federal Courts hear disputes involving “federal questions” (such as copyright and trademark infringement) or cases involving citizens of two different states (called “diversity”) cases. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals hears appeals from these district courts.
