3 ways software companies learn of licensing violations

There are many ways a software publisher (like Microsoft, Vero, Adobe, Solidworks, or Autodesk) can find out a company is infringing their software. Here are a few common ways.

1. You submitted a "crash report" and they look your company up in the licensing database and see no licensing).

2. You tout "AutoCAD" or "Microsoft Office" skills on LinkedIn profile (and they look you up and see no licensing for your business).

3. An internal "whistleblower" who either wants revenge (sabotage) or is getting nervous that a massive amount of unlicensed software usage can lead to a criminal raid.

4. Your business posts job ads (Indeed is a big one) asking for someone with "Cabinet Vision" experience or "Surfcam" or "Alphacam" for example, yet your company has no licenses - or insufficient licenses)

5. Sometimes a competitor may hear about it and report you just to clog up the competition so to speak
