Nagrastar is the technology that protects the encrypted content and allows viewers to decrypt and view the content.

Dish is aggressive in protecting and enforcing its intellectual product. They may bring a lawsuit for illegal interception of a broadcast signal under 47 U.S.C. 605. A violation of this law can lead to damages of 10k per infringement or enhanced damages of 100k per, plus Attorney Fees.
