In this video, Attorney Steve® discusses sports law, specifically the Right of Publicity as it relates to college athletes. Should they be allowed to profit from their name, image, and likeness (known as the Right of Publicity) while playing and during their playing days? I think so. I like the law. NCAA and college sports teams are making MILLIONS. Coaches are making MILLIONS.

Not all athletes get scholarships. Many don’t. But the NCAA and the California colleges and universities such as Stanford and USC make millions of dollars off the backs of their athletes and their talents. The athletes are what fill the stands and what the fans come to see.

SB 206 aims to allow athletes to profit from any commercial endorsements a player can get by himself or herself (both men's and women’s sports) and to not be in jeopardy of having a scholarship revoked or other action taken.

From what I have read, NCAA has threatened to sue if the law passes (it passed both the California house and senate UNANIMOUSLY, and Governor Newsome has 30 days to sign to make it law. Once that happens (I assume California will blaze the trail), the game will be on, so to speak. There are 20+ division one colleges in California. How many of the players at these institutions will have the ability to draw sponsorship opportunities?
