WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CRIMINAL AND CIVIL ASSAULT?

Many people often confuse the terms "civil" and "criminal" assault, thinking they are one and the same. However, there is a degree of difference between the two. Criminal assault is an attempt to physically harm another person with the intent to injure them, whereas civil assault is any degree of unwanted physical contact that results in bodily harm. While both are against the law, criminal assault is typically punishable by a harsher penalty, such as jail time. Civil assault typically results in less serious punishment, such as a fine or probation. It's important to be aware of the distinction so that you can better understand the potential consequences of your actions.
