Cal and Rosie Russert are going to visit friends in the town of Good Samaritan. Cal, a truck driver familiar with the roads, stumbles upon an accident on the road. Cal, armed with basic first aid knowledge, goes to investigate and finds an overturned truck with a passenger still inside. Using a wrench, he smashes the windshield and manages to pull the driver out. The man is not breathing or has a heartbeat, so Cal starts to administer CPR. Cal's efforts succeed, and the man, Sam Singley is brought back to life.

Five years later, Sam Singley and his wife are rushing home on the same road when they come across an overturned truck on fire. They stop, and Sam uses a wrench to break open the windshield and drag out the unconscious driver. As fate would have it, the driver turns out to be none other than Cal Russert. Cal, just like Sam, has no heartbeat or breath. But thanks to Sam's quick thinking and knowledge of CPR, he is able to repay the good deed and save Cal's life.
