D2D DIY How to Sharpen Jointer / Planer Knives | Deulen Method

Sharpening your jointer or planer blades / knives is super easy and doesn't have to be super expensive every time you need a set of fresh blades on your machine. This deulen style sharpening jig that I made is inexpensive to make and works great. In this Day to Day DIY video I show you how to use the sharpening jig to sharpen an ODD number of blades.

3 Blade Method:
1) Install blades 1 & 2 into the jig. [1 & 2]
2) 10 Strokes over your lowest grit.
3) Take out blade 1 and install blade 3 into the jig. [3 & 2]
4) 10 Strokes over your lowest grit.
5) 10 strokes over the second grit.
6) Take out blade 2 and install blade 1. [3 & 1]
7) 10 Strokes over the second grit.
8) 10 Stokes over the third grit.
9) Take out blade 3 and install blade 2. [1 & 2]
--Repeat the sequence above until you work through all the grits---
Holding the blades flat one of the higher grits, sand off burr.

2 Blade Method:
1) Put the blades in the jig.
2) 10 Strokes on every grit.
3) Sand off burr.
