The CDC says reported clinical cases of Candida auris, a deadly fungal infection, have spread to 30 countries and about half of the U.S. states. According to the CDC, the fungus can cause serious illness or death in people with weakened immune systems and invasive medical devices such as catheters. The fungus, first reported in 2016, is resistant to multiple antifungal medications.
