*** Asbabun Nuzul Surat Al Baqarah ***
The reason for the revelation of Surat Al Baqarah was not revealed all at once, that is gradually for up to 9 years. Al Baqarah means female cow, taken from the story in verses 61 to 71 about God's order to the Jews to slaughter a cow.
The verses tell about the fussiness of the Jews who were commanded by God to slaughter a cow. They asked a lot of questions about the characteristics of the cows they had to slaughter which ended up making it difficult for themselves.
This letter begins with the letter muqatha-ah, which is alif-lam-mim. The purpose is to draw the reader's attention to the divine messages that will be conveyed in this letter. Muqatha'ah letters are letters whose reading is interrupted.
