Arya-Manushya: The Noble Man

The highest goal for any well-qualified citizen of Vedic civilization is to personify in his being what the Vedic scriptures term an Arya-Manushya, or a Noble Man. The Vedic literature, philosophy and culture paint a very clear and unabiguous portrait of how the Noble Man acts and behaves. In this special livestream talk, Sri Dharma Pravartaka Acharya explains to us the inner characteristics, qualities and attributes of the Arya Manushya.

“Of a hundred people, only one is born a hero; of a thousand people, only one is a wise man; and of a hundred thousand people, one may be an orator. I am hesitant to say whether a man of true charities will ever take his birth or not.” (Vyasa Samhita, 4.58)

“A conquest alone does not make a hero, nor do studies alone make a wise man. Eloquence alone does not make a person an orator, nor do gifts make a charitable man.” (Vyasa Samhita, 4.59)

“He who has conquered his senses is the real hero. He who practises virtues is really wise. A speaker is he who discusses satisfying and beneficial topics, and he who gives with reverence is the maker of true gifts.” (Vyasa Samhita, 4.60)

“A hero is not spoken of as one who has merely forcibly taken possession of another’s kingdom. Rather, he who has controlled all of his senses is described by the learned as a true hero.” (Daksha Samhita, 7.18)
